Teams share sensitive information through Gmail and Google Drive every day, and if an email is sent incorrectly, it can have extreme consequences. Security leaders now work with the mindset that network perimeters are already compromised, so safeguards must travel with the data itself. Virtru provides a data security platform delivering end-to-end encryption and access control for email, files, and apps, trusted by more than 6,100 customers. More than 1 million active users rely on Virtru, and the platform protects over 6 million emails and files each week
Virtru has served as Google’s Recommended Application Partner for encryption since 2016 and earned a 2016 Google Partner of the Year title. In 2024, Google named Virtru a Google Cloud Partner of the Year in Industry Solutions – Technology for Government and Education. Virtru also moved its SaaS service to Google Cloud with Support from SADA, offers its solutions through the Google Cloud Marketplace, and benefits from the Google Cloud Partner Advantage and ISV Solution Connect. The market brings FedRAMP-authorized encryption and heightened compliance options to Google Cloud Customers globally.
Virtru for Gmail sits natively inside the Gmail interface, so users encrypt messages and attachments with one click before data leaves the organization. Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Workspace users and admins can revoke messages, set expiration dates, disable forwarding, disable downloading, and add watermarks. Senders can also see whether an email or attachment was opened, and recipients authenticate with their credentials. Coverage extends to Google Meet, Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Slides.
Virtru Private Keystore lets customers host private keys wherever they like, and Google Client-Side Encryption (CSE) support covers Google Workspace CSE and Gmail S/MIME.
Customers take full control of the keys used to encrypt their data, supporting data sovereignty and security obligations. Label-based access controls use Google Workspace labels and groups, so protection follows files moved to other devices or folders.
“Virtru is proud to be Google Workspace’s first recommended data protection partner and to have helped architect Google’s Client-Side Encryption capability with Google, in concert with our strategic enterprise partners.” – John Ackerly, Co-Founder & CEO
Company Data Protection Gateway automatically encrypts data moving through email and SaaS apps, including Salesforce, Zendesk, ServiceNow, and Workday. Secure Share handles large file exchanges with customers or partners, works in a browser, and integrates with Google Drive, putting full control in the data owner’s hands. Virtru Secure Share is FIPS-validated, which helps support advanced requirements such as CMMC and ITAR.
Exxelia secures intellectual property according to ITAR and CMMC 2.0 standards with Virtru. NEXT Insurance gained speed and security, and HR tech innovator Maxi uses Virtru Private Keystore for Google Cloud security. Zwift relies on Virtru to protect intellectual property in Gmail and Google Drive; Kunes Auto Group uses Virtru to encrypt data for FTC Safeguards.

The Air Force Research Laboratory pairs Google Workspace with Virtru’s client-side and server-side data protection to add layers of security for sensitive information. Virtru also supports CMMC 2.0, ITAR, CJIS, and HIPAA requirements, and organization-wide installation gets users running within minutes.
Every product runs on the Virtru Data Security Platform, built on the open Trusted Data Format (TDF). The platform uses attribute-based access control (ABAC), so the organization decides who can access data and when, and AES-256 encryption protects data in transit and at rest. Deployment options include fully managed SaaS cloud or a self-managed, air-gapped or VPC environment. The foundation gives Google customers persistent control over information shared inside and outside their perimeter.
Virtru gives people, organizations, and developers the power to share sensitive data with security, privacy, and ownership intact.
