Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy have been selected by President-elect Donald Trump to lead the newly established Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). The department’s primary mission is to streamline the federal government by reducing its size and cutting costs through regulatory and workforce reductions.
To support this initiative, Ramaswamy announced the launch of a new podcast, “DOGEcast,” which he will co-host with Musk. The podcast is designed to keep the public informed about ongoing cost-cutting initiatives. This new endeavor will replace Ramaswamy’s existing weekly podcast.
In a joint op-ed published in the Wall Street Journal, Musk and Ramaswamy outlined their vision for DOGE. They emphasized the need to address what they view as excessive bureaucracy and regulatory overreach in the federal system, which they claim undermines the authority of elected officials and contributes to inefficiencies.
The department will focus on scaling back regulations and trimming the federal workforce to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
Specific areas targeted for cuts include public broadcasting and certain nonprofit programs, which Musk described as examples of unnecessary expenditures.
Both Musk and Ramaswamy believe that the department envisioned as a small team advocating for limited government, will help curb bureaucratic overreach and restore decision-making power to elected representatives.
