Gulfood 2024 offers an innovative platform for Dubai Municipality to showcase its endeavors in building a sustainable food system, aiming to improve quality of life and fulfill the objectives of the Dubai Food Security Strategy.
Dubai Municipality will join Gulfood 2024, a premier food and beverage exhibition taking place from February 19 to 23 at the Dubai World Trade Centre, to evaluate its comprehensive digital programs and services aimed at advancing Dubai’s food sector.
With over 5,500 exhibitors expected, the event will provide a dynamic platform for the Municipality to spotlight its continuous initiatives in elevating food safety and quality standards across the Emirate of Dubai.
H.E. Dawoud Al Hajri, Director General of Dubai Municipality, emphasized the importance of the Municipality’s presence at the Gulfood Exhibition, one of the largest gatherings that unites food and beverage communities worldwide. He underscored that the exhibition serves as an annual platform for exchanging expertise and knowledge, offering insights into global and future trends, as well as the latest industry advancements in food and beverage production, distribution, and circulation.
H.E. Al Hajri noted that the exhibition presents an ideal platform to showcase the Municipality’s endeavors in establishing a sustainable food system in Dubai, ensuring community protection from food-related risks. He emphasized that these efforts will bolster Dubai’s reputation as a global city role model and align with the objectives of the Emirate’s Food Security Strategy.
In his statement, Al Hajri mentioned that during their participation in the Gulfood Exhibition, Dubai Municipality aims to exhibit its endeavors in ensuring food safety and quality. He further stated that the Municipality would also showcase its state-of-the-art digital services designed to streamline import, export, and registration processes for food products and shipments. These digital services are instrumental in improving the availability of flexible, sustainable, and integrated food supply chains.
About Dubai Food System Excellence Program
During Gulfood, the Municipality will assess the Dubai Food Systems Excellence Program, the latest initiative aimed at recognizing food establishments excelling in applying integrated standards of food safety, nutrition, environmental sustainability, community responsibility, digitization, and innovation.
The program aims to reinforce Dubai’s status as a prominent global trade hub, encourage food businesses to distinguish themselves and maintain a sustainable food, health, and environmental system to enhance the quality of life.
Moreover, it focuses on food outlets categorized as restaurants and snack preparation facilities within the Emirate of Dubai, encompassing local eateries, cafeterias in hotels, and establishments in public locations.
Dubai Municipality is dedicated to enhancing the food sector to ensure self-sufficiency and security. They continuously monitor the sector to ensure access to top-quality materials.
The Municipality will evaluate its services for food merchants and suppliers, providing them with access to the Import and Export Regulatory System (IRS) to streamline import and export procedures and monitor food products.
Additionally, the Municipality will advocate for practices that reduce food loss and waste in the Emirate, while also enhancing customer comprehension of the regulations, processes, and transactions associated with food shipments.
The customer’s interaction with the IRS involves multiple stages, including obtaining a license, registering the company on the Municipality’s website, assessing food products, submitting import applications through the import and export system, arranging for shipment arrival at the port of entry, and transporting it to the port control office for inspection and release.
